According to a report by Barca Blaugranes on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez as they prepare for the summer 2027 transfer window.
Spanish publication El Desmarque claims that the Catalan club are monitoring the Argentine international’s contract situation while exploring options to strengthen their defence ahead of the 2027–28 season.
Martinez’s current contract with Manchester United is reportedly set to expire next summer. However, United have the option to extend his deal by another year, and their decision could determine whether Barcelona have a realistic opportunity to sign him.
If the Premier League side decide not to activate the extension clause, Barcelona could attempt to secure the defender’s services on a free transfer. The report also suggests that the Spanish giants could make an initial approach before the end of 2026 as they assess the possibility of bringing him to Camp Nou.
Should Martinez’s contract situation remain unresolved, he could be eligible to negotiate with clubs outside England from January, potentially increasing uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
Barcelona are believed to appreciate the 28-year-old’s experience and his qualities as a left-footed centre-back. His ability to strengthen the defensive line could make him an attractive option as the club considers potential additions for the coming season.
Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 and has since established himself as an important member of the club’s defence. Nevertheless, United’s difficult campaign and questions surrounding the defender’s long-term future have contributed to speculation that he could eventually leave the club.
The Argentine has also recently been the subject of reports following claims that he criticised Manchester United’s hierarchy after their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. However, those reported comments should not automatically be interpreted as evidence that he wants to depart Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s decision on whether to extend his contract could have a significant impact on Barcelona’s reported interest. It also remains unclear whether Martinez would be willing to leave the Premier League for a new challenge in Spain.
For now, Barcelona’s interest remains at the speculation stage, with no official offer or agreement reported. Martinez’s contractual situation is expected to be an important factor in determining his next move as the summer 2027 transfer window approaches.
