Liverpool youngster Will Wright is determined to earn a place in Andoni Iraola’s senior squad after making an impressive impression with his goalscoring performances at youth level.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the 18-year-old forward is hoping to make his first-team breakthrough after scoring nine goals in eight appearances for Liverpool’s youth sides this season.
Wright has quickly established himself as a promising prospect since arriving from Salford City, with his recent performances highlighting his potential to progress into senior football.
The teenager strengthened his reputation on Wednesday by scoring a hat-trick against LASK in the UEFA Youth League. His impressive display has increased his hopes of attracting the attention of Iraola, although he is yet to be included in a Premier League matchday squad under the manager.
Speaking to Liverpool’s media team after his three-goal performance, Wright explained that maintaining his current standards would be essential to achieving his ambitions.
“I’ve picked up some good form at the start of the season and I have to just carry it on,” he said.
The young striker also recognises that goals alone will not guarantee his promotion to the senior team. He is keen to improve other aspects of his game and follow the development of academy graduates such as Lewis Koumas, Luke Chambers and James McConnell, whose progress has provided encouragement.
Wright also hopes to learn from Liverpool’s established attacking players, particularly Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. Training alongside the senior forwards would offer him an opportunity to develop his movement, finishing and understanding of the demands of top-level football.
Describing his preferred style of play, the teenager added: “I like a direct striker who likes running in behind, always putting himself about, and I think that summarises me as well.”
However, breaking into Liverpool’s first-team attack will not be straightforward. The club reportedly invested a combined €240 million in Isak and Ekitike, leaving Wright facing considerable competition as he works towards securing a senior opportunity.
Despite the obstacles, his performances at academy level suggest that he has the potential to become an important prospect for the club. He has already registered 15 goals and seven assists in 26 appearances for Liverpool’s youth teams.
Wright’s immediate priority will be to maintain his impressive form and continue developing his overall game. If he sustains his progress, the teenager could strengthen his case for a first-team opportunity in the future.
