Cole Palmer will be available for Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester United despite being sent off during the Blues’ defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Monday, 26 October 2026, Palmer’s suspension will apply to Chelsea’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool at Anfield rather than their upcoming league meeting with Manchester United.
The England international received two yellow cards within nine second-half minutes during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham, resulting in a red card and an automatic one-match suspension.
However, Chelsea’s next domestic fixture is their Carabao Cup encounter against Liverpool, meaning Palmer will serve his ban in the midweek cup match.
Suspensions resulting from red cards in the Premier League also apply to domestic cup competitions, while dismissals in domestic cup matches can carry suspensions into league fixtures.
Yellow-card accumulation suspensions, by contrast, are restricted to the relevant league competition.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso may have considered resting Palmer against Liverpool, having initially named him among the substitutes for the previous Carabao Cup match against Leeds United.
Palmer eventually came on at half-time with Chelsea trailing 1-0 and scored twice within three minutes to inspire a comeback. The Blues went on to secure a 6-3 victory.
His availability for the Manchester United fixture will be a boost for Chelsea as they prepare to face their Premier League rivals at Stamford Bridge.
United, meanwhile, will have an uninterrupted week to prepare for the encounter after being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Red Devils suffered a 4-2 defeat at Old Trafford despite taking an early two-goal lead through Mason Mount and Shea Lacey, who scored within 43 seconds of each other.
Charalampos Kostoulas reduced the deficit shortly before half-time before Maxim De Cuyper and Pascal Gross completed Brighton’s comeback in the second half.
The defeat marked the first time in 50 years that Manchester United had lost a home match after leading by two goals.
