Alejandro Balde’s future at Barcelona is reportedly becoming increasingly uncertain as the left-back grows frustrated with the way manager Hansi Flick has handled his reduced role in the team.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, November 2, 2026, the defender is struggling to understand what he must do to regain his place in Barcelona’s starting line-up, with tensions reportedly increasing between him and the club.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Balde is particularly unhappy about being deployed in unfamiliar positions during training sessions instead of regularly working at left-back. The situation has reportedly affected his relationship with Barcelona and increased speculation about a possible departure in January.
One of the defender’s biggest concerns is the lack of direct communication from Flick. His representatives reportedly believe the German manager has not clearly explained his plans for Balde or what role he expects him to play going forward.
The Spanish international would reportedly have preferred an honest discussion with the coach, especially considering that Flick previously advised Hector Fort and Marc Casado to explore opportunities elsewhere before the current season. Balde believes he deserves similar clarity about his own future.
His concerns are also said to have attracted attention within the dressing room, with a senior Barcelona player reportedly questioning why the defender is not regularly training in his natural position.
Meanwhile, Flick and his coaching staff are believed to have reservations about Balde’s concentration, defensive awareness and decision-making. They reportedly feel he sometimes struggles to judge the right moments to press opponents and when to maintain his defensive position.
Flick has also publicly suggested that the youngster needs to improve his confidence and conviction, raising further questions about his current standing within the squad.
Manchester United have previously been linked with an interest in the defender, although the latest report does not establish that the Premier League club are preparing a fresh move for him.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are reportedly more interested in a permanent transfer than a loan arrangement, as they look to generate funds for defensive reinforcements during the January window.
With Balde increasingly dissatisfied and his position under Flick still uncertain, the possibility of an exit could become a major talking point when the winter transfer window opens.
