Nigeria Flamingos Take 2-0 Lead Against Korea DPR As Umejiaku Scores From Rafiu's Assist

According to a report by Flashscore on Friday, October 23, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos produced an impressive first-half attacking display against Korea DPR in their final Group B fixture at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, with Oluebube Umejiaku reportedly doubling Nigeria's advantage in the 38th minute.

The Nigerian team had already taken the lead through Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who found the back of the net in the 15th minute to give the Flamingos an early advantage against the defending champions.

However, Nigeria continued to threaten in attack rather than allowing their opponents to dictate proceedings.

Their attacking efforts reportedly produced another goal in the 38th minute when Tosin Rafiu delivered an excellent assist for Umejiaku, who converted the opportunity to put Nigeria 2-0 ahead.

The goal gave the Flamingos a commanding advantage as the first half approached its conclusion and increased the pressure on the defending champions.

Nigeria entered the encounter knowing that their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage depended on securing a positive result against one of the strongest teams in the competition.

The Flamingos had endured a difficult beginning to their campaign, suffering a 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening match.

However, they responded positively in their second outing, defeating Puerto Rico 2-0 to collect their first three points of the tournament.

That victory restored confidence within the Nigerian team and kept their qualification ambitions alive heading into the decisive encounter against Korea DPR.

The defending champions, meanwhile, had enjoyed a remarkable start to the tournament, recording comfortable victories over Puerto Rico and Poland.

Korea DPR defeated Puerto Rico 6-0 before overcoming Poland 6-1, demonstrating their attacking quality and establishing themselves as the team to beat in Group B.

Nigeria's reported two-goal advantage therefore represents an encouraging performance against opponents who had dominated their previous matches.

Umejiaku's goal also highlights the importance of teamwork within the Flamingos' attacking department, particularly with Rafiu providing the decisive pass that created the opportunity.

Head coach Akeem Busari will be pleased with his players' determination to take their chances and challenge the defending champions.

Nevertheless, Nigeria will need to remain organised defensively and avoid unnecessary mistakes, considering Korea DPR's impressive goalscoring record.

The Flamingos will also be looking to maintain their attacking momentum and create further opportunities as the encounter progresses.

With Adegbuyi and Umejiaku reportedly scoring in the opening 38 minutes, Nigeria have given themselves an excellent opportunity to secure a memorable result and advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
