According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday October 31, 2026, Galatasaray forward Rafael Leão has revealed why Victor Osimhen allowed him to take a penalty during their 4-0 victory over Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday.
The Portuguese international converted the second-half spot-kick to score his first goal for Galatasaray since joining the Turkish champions from AC Milan during the summer transfer window.
Osimhen, who is the club's regular penalty taker, had the opportunity to take the spot-kick but instead handed the ball to Leão, allowing his team-mate to end his wait for a goal.
Speaking after the match, Leão expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian striker, admitting that he had been eager to get off the mark for his new club.
"I'm very grateful to him [Osimhen]. He knows how much I struggled for that goal," Leão said.
The 26-year-old also revealed the light-hearted conversation that took place between the two players before the match.
According to Leão, he had jokingly told Osimhen to score twice after learning that the Nigerian had welcomed his second child.
"Yesterday, Osimhen had his second child. So I told him this: you need to score two goals today. He scored the first one, but during the penalty, he gave the ball to me. We have a great group," he explained.
Osimhen had already opened the scoring with a header before allowing Leão to convert the penalty. Both forwards were subsequently on the scoresheet as Galatasaray secured a convincing 4-0 victory.
The result further strengthened Galatasaray's position at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table as they continued their push for another domestic title.
Leão will now hope to build on his first goal for the club when Galatasaray turn their attention to their next Champions League fixture against VfB Stuttgart.
