Chelsea have been advised against allowing Estevao Willian to leave on loan in January amid reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Blues urged to keep the Brazilian teenager as part of their plans for the remainder of the season.
According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, PSG are considering a move for the 19-year-old as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Estevao has found it difficult to establish himself in Xabi Alonso’s starting XI, having yet to start a Premier League match this season. His chances of regular involvement have also reportedly been affected by Geovany Quenda’s emergence ahead of him in the selection pecking order.
Transfer reporter Ekrem Konur claims PSG have identified the Chelsea forward as a potential target, with manager Luis Enrique and sporting adviser Luis Campos impressed by his talent and future prospects.
The French champions could be looking for additional attacking options following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s knee surgery and ongoing fitness concerns surrounding Ousmane Dembele.
However, Chelsea have several reasons to resist any attempt to take Estevao away from Stamford Bridge, even on a temporary basis.
1. Chelsea need attacking depth
The Blues face a busy period in January and February, with Premier League matches and domestic cup commitments placing considerable demands on their squad.
Keeping Estevao would give Alonso another option in attack and allow him to rotate his established forwards without significantly reducing the team’s creativity and attacking threat.
2. Cover for Cole Palmer
Palmer’s previous injury problems, particularly his groin issues, make it important for Chelsea to have dependable alternatives in their attacking positions.
Alonso regularly uses Palmer and Morgan Rogers in advanced roles behind Joao Pedro. Estevao could provide cover in those positions, ensuring the team retains attacking quality whenever key players are unavailable.
3. His development requires careful management
Despite his obvious potential, Estevao has experienced hamstring problems, making it important for Chelsea to manage his workload carefully.
Keeping him at the club would allow the coaching staff to monitor his fitness, control his playing time and gradually increase his involvement. Although a loan move could offer more regular football, it would reduce Chelsea’s direct control over his development.
4. Chelsea must show confidence in his future
Allowing Estevao to leave temporarily could create uncertainty about his place in Alonso’s long-term plans. The youngster needs to feel that the club believes in his ability and sees him as an important part of its future.
Rather than sanctioning a loan, Chelsea should provide him with a clear development pathway and more opportunities to demonstrate his qualities.
With PSG reportedly monitoring the situation, Chelsea face a decision over how best to handle Estevao’s future. However, retaining the Brazilian and giving him a genuine opportunity to establish himself could prove more beneficial than allowing him to leave midway through the season.
