Chelsea youngster Ryan Kavuma-McQueen has caught the attention of Portsmouth manager John Mousinho with his impressive performances during his loan spell, giving Blues head coach Xabi Alonso further reason to be optimistic about the teenager's potential.
According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the 17-year-old winger has established himself as one of the most effective dribblers in the Championship since joining Portsmouth on loan during the summer transfer window.
The Cobham academy graduate has settled quickly on the south coast and become a valuable member of Mousinho's squad. His performances have demonstrated his ability to take on defenders, create goalscoring opportunities and strengthen Portsmouth's attacking threat.
Kavuma-McQueen delivered an impressive performance in Portsmouth's victory over Sheffield United, completing his first full 90 minutes since joining the club.
The Chelsea youngster played a key role in creating Adrian Segečić's goal after beating Tahith Chong on the left wing before sending a dangerous cross into the six-yard box.
His impressive display followed a disappointing South Coast derby defeat against Southampton, during which he was substituted at half-time. However, Mousinho was delighted with the youngster's response and praised his performance against Sheffield United.
"I don’t want to get carried away... I thought he was awesome tonight," the Portsmouth manager said.
"I thought he was a joy to watch. He worked his socks off, which I thought was a big step forward for him."
Mousinho also pointed out that the teenager still needs to improve certain aspects of his game, particularly his understanding of pressing duties and knowing when to track opposing players. Nevertheless, the manager believes Kavuma-McQueen's attacking qualities are already evident.
The statistics further demonstrate the winger's progress since arriving at Portsmouth. He has made 10 Championship appearances, including seven starts, and completed 24 successful dribbles.
That figure was the highest in the division at the time of the report. Furthermore, his average of 2.4 successful dribbles per 90 minutes ranked first among Championship players.
Kavuma-McQueen has previously spoken about his admiration for former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, whose exceptional dribbling skills helped inspire his development as an attacking player.
"I’ve watched a lot of games there and seen some great players represent this club," Kavuma-McQueen said.
"Obviously, as a young winger, one that I always loved was Eden Hazard."
The youngster also named Cristiano Ronaldo as another footballer he admired while growing up, highlighting the influence of two celebrated players on his development.
