According to the source at Football Transfer, Tuesday October 20, 2026, Manchester United are prepared to compete with Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha next year, despite the Red Devils already splashing out millions in the summer signing Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
Despite that, Manchester United Football Club is ready to explore other options in the center of the park and have renewed their interest in the German international for another potential spending spree this month.
Nmecha, 26, has established himself as one of Europe’s brightest midfielders in the last few years, after his displays in the 2023 World Cup, with a number of Premier League clubs showing an interest in the player during the summer transfer window. In fact, the Bundesliga club may prove difficult to deal with given their asking price.
According to TEAMtalk, Dortmund view Nmecha as a key component of their future plans under coach Niko Kovac, after the player agreed a new contract in March. The report claims that both Manchester United and Liverpool are considering a move for the midfielder next year, with the Red Devils already discussing a possible January transfer. Dortmund could therefore expect to receive a fee of around £100m for the midfielder’s services if he leaves the Signal Iduna Park this winter.
Nmecha has been linked with a number of Premier League giants over the last twelve months, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle and Tottenham all said to have scoped out the Dortmund midfielder. However, it seems that United and their Merseyside rivals are poised to beat off the competition to sign the German international.
Nmecha’s contract includes a release clause of €80m, which will become activated this summer, meaning any club wanting to sign him in January will have to pay substantially more than that figure. The player has so far scored twice in ten outings in all competitions this term, and his estimated transfer worth peaked at €58.5million after his stunning performances for Borussia Dortmund since the start of 2026.
While Man Utd have shown interest in Nmecha, a move to Old Trafford seems unlikely given the options available to manager Michael Carrick in the engine room. The United boss has Baleba, Santos, Tielemans, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes and the injured Ugarte at his disposal.
Furthermore, the Red Devils have more pressing needs ahead of next summer as they look to strengthen their left-back position, while also addressing their needs in the heart of defense and at center forward. A large-scale spending spree is therefore unlikely to take place in the January transfer window.
