Sergio Ramos could be set for a return to Spanish football, with Getafe reportedly considering a move for the experienced defender as he searches for a new club.
According to a report by GOAL on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed that discussions had taken place with René Ramos, the former Real Madrid captain’s brother and representative, regarding a possible transfer.
However, Torres made it clear that signing the 40-year-old is not currently at the top of the club’s agenda, as Getafe are prioritising reinforcements in their wide positions.
“It could come because it has happened. It’s a topic we’ve been following for a while,” Torres said when discussing the possibility of bringing Ramos to the club.
Getafe already have several centre-backs in their squad, meaning any potential deal would depend on the club’s needs and whether the circumstances make the transfer feasible.
Ramos has been without a team since departing Mexican side Monterrey at the end of 2025. The former Spain international enjoyed an illustrious career at Real Madrid, winning multiple Champions League titles and establishing himself as one of the most accomplished defenders of his generation.
A move to Getafe could also offer Ramos the chance to reunite with former Real Madrid teammate Dani Carvajal, who has reportedly joined the Madrid-based club. The two defenders spent several successful seasons together at the Santiago Bernabéu, collecting major domestic and European trophies.
Financial considerations could prove decisive in negotiations, with Ramos potentially having to accept a lower salary to make the transfer possible.
Although Getafe have acknowledged their interest, the proposed move remains uncertain as the club weigh up their priorities and the practicalities of bringing the veteran defender into their squad.
