Former Nigeria youth international Simon Zenke has expressed surprise that Arsenal and Manchester United did not sign Victor Osimhen before the striker joined Galatasaray.
Speaking to Turkish media, Zenke described Osimhen’s move to the Istanbul club as a major opportunity and suggested that the Premier League sides may now regret missing out on the Nigerian forward.
“I was really surprised that none of the big European clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United, who needed a striker at the time, were after him,” Zenke said. “I think they regret it now after seeing his performance in Türkiye.”
Osimhen moved to Galatasaray from Napoli after attracting interest from several European clubs. His performances in Turkey have strengthened his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading attacking players.
Zenke also highlighted the qualities that make the Super Eagles striker difficult for defenders to handle. He described Osimhen as a modern forward who combines pace and strength with the ability to hold up the ball, press opponents and contribute defensively.
The former Nigerian player also stressed Osimhen’s importance to the national team, saying the difference is clear when the striker is available compared with when he is absent.
Osimhen has become a key figure at Galatasaray, contributing goals and assists while helping the club compete for domestic honours. His performances have also kept attention on the decision of major European clubs not to secure his signature earlier.
Zenke’s comments add to the discussion surrounding Osimhen’s rise and the value he has brought to Galatasaray. However, his suggestion that Arsenal and Manchester United regret missing out remains his assessment rather than a confirmed statement from either club.
