According to a report by Daily Mirror on Friday, October 30, 2026, Manchester United players were booed by fellow passengers after their journey to London ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Chelsea was delayed by traffic.
The Red Devils’ travelling party, including manager Michael Carrick, his coaching staff and the players, were heading to the capital for their 12:30pm encounter at Stamford Bridge when they experienced an unexpected delay.
United were scheduled to board a train at Stockport on Friday afternoon. However, traffic congestion prevented the team from arriving at the station on time, forcing the service travelling from Manchester Piccadilly to wait for them.
According to The Overlap, the train was held to ensure the Manchester United delegation did not miss their scheduled journey. When the players eventually boarded, some of them received boos from fellow passengers, while Carrick was given a cheer. The delay lasted approximately seven minutes before the journey continued.
The incident comes amid growing frustration among Manchester United supporters following the club’s disappointing results this season. Carrick’s team suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth at Old Trafford last Sunday, extending their winless run to eight matches. The result also left the Red Devils with just one Premier League victory this season.
Following that defeat, several home supporters booed the players, while Carrick received chants of support as he made his way off the pitch. The manager was widely expected to face the possibility of losing his job after the Bournemouth result. However, Manchester United have decided to retain the 45-year-old, although uncertainty remains over how long he will continue in the position.
Speaking ahead of the Chelsea encounter on Thursday, Carrick insisted that he did not need assurances from the club despite the pressure surrounding his position. The former United midfielder also explained that he understood the expectations and responsibilities that came with managing the club.
Carrick added that he remained focused on the supporters, explaining that their experience at matches and the performances the team delivered were what mattered most to him.
Manchester United will now attempt to respond to their recent disappointing results when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
