Martin Odegaard Trying to Convince £60m Star to Join Arsenal in January

According to a report by Football London on Thursday November 5, 2026, Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard is reportedly using his relationship with Norwegian international teammate Antonio Nusa to convince the RB Leipzig winger to move to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.

According to journalist Mark Brus in The Daily Briefing, Ødegaard has been encouraging Nusa to consider joining him at Arsenal. The midfielder knows the 21-year-old from their involvement with Norway’s national team and believes playing together at club level could appeal to him.

A source explained the captain’s involvement, saying: “Martin Odegaard knows Antonio Nusa well from their time with the Norwegian national team. He’s been in his ear about joining him at the Emirates.”

The source added that Arsenal hope Ødegaard’s influence could encourage Nusa to put pressure on Leipzig to reduce their financial demands. Meanwhile, the Gunners have reportedly held discussions with both the winger’s representatives and the German club about a possible transfer.

Leipzig are understood to value Nusa at approximately £60million, but Arsenal believe negotiations could bring the asking price down to around £45million. The club are therefore exploring whether a more affordable agreement can be reached before January.

Nusa recently demonstrated his attacking quality by scoring during Leipzig’s 3-2 Champions League defeat against Manchester City on Wednesday. His performances have attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal among those monitoring his situation.

Mikel Arteta would welcome another attacking option as his team continue competing across multiple competitions. Strengthening the wide areas remains an important consideration, particularly with the demands of a challenging season increasing.

Arsenal recently secured a 2-1 Champions League victory over Slavia Prague, although they were forced to defend resolutely during the second half after dominating the opening period.

Ødegaard’s personal connection with Nusa could give Arsenal an advantage in convincing the winger to consider the move. However, persuading Leipzig to accept a reduced transfer fee remains a separate challenge.

For now, Arsenal’s interest involves ongoing discussions rather than an advanced agreement. Whether Leipzig lower their £60million valuation and whether Nusa pushes for a transfer will determine how negotiations develop ahead of January.
