NFF salutes Iwobi on record Premier League appearances

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday October 25, 2026, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi after he reached a major milestone in the Premier League.

Iwobi became the joint-second most-featured African player in the history of the English top flight following Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday.

The 30-year-old has now made 328 Premier League appearances, putting him level with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, according to a report by Daily Post Nigeria.

The achievement has attracted recognition from the NFF, which praised the midfielder and expressed hope that he would go on to establish a new record for African players in the competition.

Acting NFF General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme said the federation was delighted with Iwobi’s achievement and wished him further success in his career.

“The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,” Ikpeme remarked.

Iwobi is now closing in on the record held by former Ivory Coast international Kolo Touré, who made 353 Premier League appearances during his spells with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Fulham midfielder needs another 25 appearances to equal Touré’s record and 26 to surpass it.

Iwobi began his professional career at Arsenal, where he progressed through the club’s youth system before making his senior breakthrough. He later moved to Everton before joining Fulham, continuing his career in England’s top division.

His latest milestone highlights his longevity and consistency in the Premier League, where he has continued to feature across different teams and midfield roles.

With his career still ongoing at Fulham, Iwobi will have the opportunity to move closer to Touré’s record and potentially become the African player with the most appearances in the competition.
