Nigerian Player Loses Consciousness After ‘Brutal Challenge’ and Is Rushed to Hospital

According to a report by Goal.com on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Nigerian midfielder Kuadri Lyamid was taken to hospital after losing consciousness following a serious head injury during Sabadell’s Spanish second-division clash with Albacete.

The incident happened in the 40th minute when Albacete midfielder Jose Corpas accidentally struck Lyamid on the head with a powerful kick. The Nigerian was left motionless on the pitch, causing immediate concern among players, officials and supporters.

Although the challenge was considered unintentional, the referee stopped the match as medical staff rushed onto the field to attend to the injured midfielder. Corpas was subsequently shown a straight red card, leaving Albacete with 10 players for the remainder of the encounter.

Medical personnel quickly began treating Lyamid, who eventually regained consciousness while receiving attention on the pitch. His recovery brought some relief to those who had witnessed the frightening incident.

However, due to the seriousness of the head injury, he was taken away by ambulance for further medical examinations. The hospital assessment was necessary to determine the extent of the injury and check for any possible complications.

The match resumed after several minutes of interruption, with Albacete maintaining their two-goal advantage despite being reduced to 10 men.

Sabadell fought to get back into the game and pulled one goal back through Inigo Aguilar in the 81st minute. The home side pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Albacete’s goalkeeper made important saves to preserve the visitors’ lead.

After the match, Sabadell released an update confirming that Lyamid remained under medical observation. The club also revealed that his initial medical examinations had produced encouraging results.

However, Sabadell did not provide further information about the full extent of his injury or how long he could be sidelined. His recovery timeline and return to action will depend on the outcome of additional medical assessments.
