According to a by BBC Sport on Monday November 2, 2026, Newcastle suffered a home defeat after Everton secured a 1-0 Premier League victory, with Thierno Barry’s second-half strike proving decisive despite sustained pressure from the hosts throughout the contest.
Both teams began positively, although clear opportunities were limited during the opening stages. Everton threatened through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Garner, while Newcastle struggled to turn possession into meaningful attacking chances early on.
Newcastle gradually increased their attacking intensity, with Joelinton firing narrowly wide before Dan Burn sent a close-range header just beyond the post. Everton also threatened through Jake O’Brien, whose header missed narrowly again.
Jordan Pickford remained alert whenever Newcastle tested him, while Lukas Hornicek produced important saves to keep Everton out before halftime. The visitors finished the opening period strongly but could not score before halftime.
Everton finally broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart. Tyrique George’s close-range volley was brilliantly stopped by Hornicek, but Barry reacted quickest to convert the rebound and give Everton the lead immediately.
Newcastle immediately searched for an equaliser, but Hornicek’s opposite number Pickford also delivered important interventions. He denied Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jake O’Brien, keeping Everton ahead during a demanding spell in the second half.
Anthony Elanga came closest to restoring parity when his effort struck the post. Newcastle continued pressing through Schär, Wissa and Ramsey, yet their attempts lacked accuracy or were comfortably handled by Pickford throughout.
Everton defended resolutely during eight minutes of added time, surviving further Newcastle pressure. Wissa tested Pickford twice, but the goalkeeper remained composed, while Osula wasted a headed opportunity from a promising position late.
Newcastle could not find an equaliser, and Everton claimed three points through Barry’s decisive rebound finish.
