Chelsea have an encouraging record under referee Jarred Gillett ahead of their Premier League meeting with Sunderland on Sunday, with the Blues winning their last five matches officiated by the Australian.
According to a report by The Athletic on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, Gillett has been appointed to oversee the encounter at the Stadium of Light, giving Xabi Alonso's side another positive statistic ahead of the trip.
Chelsea's latest victory under the referee came in September, when they defeated Leeds United 6-3 in the EFL Cup. The Blues also recorded a 1-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup semi-finals in April.
Their other victories during the five-match run came against Aston Villa, Wolves and Tottenham. Chelsea beat Villa 4-1 in March 2026, defeated Wolves 3-1 in February and secured a 1-0 victory over Tottenham in November 2025.
Across those five fixtures, Chelsea received nine yellow cards, with no player sent off. Two penalties were awarded during their win against Wolves, while the other four matches featured no penalties.
Gillett has taken charge of 14 Chelsea matches in total. The Premier League side have won eight, drawn four and lost two of those encounters, giving them a 57.1 per cent win rate. One of the victories came through a penalty shootout.
The referee will be assisted by Neil Davies and Nick Greenhalgh at the Stadium of Light, while John Busby has been appointed as the fourth official. Nick Hopton will oversee VAR, with Wade Smith serving as assistant VAR.
Chelsea will travel to Sunderland looking to build on their recent 2-0 victory over Manchester United. Alonso's team will be encouraged by their recent results under Gillett, although the record alone will not guarantee another positive outcome.
Sunderland will provide a fresh challenge, and Chelsea must reproduce the quality and discipline shown against Manchester United if they are to secure another three points.
