According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday, November 6, 2026, Barcelona youngster Brian Farinas is beginning to benefit from his patience after producing impressive displays in his recent appearances under manager Hansi Flick.
The 20-year-old experienced a frustrating beginning to the 2026/27 campaign despite being promoted to Barcelona's first-team squad and taking over the No. 4 shirt previously worn by Ronald Araujo.
Farinas spent the early part of the season waiting for his opportunity but struggled to secure regular playing time. He was frequently among the players left out whenever Flick had to reduce his squad, raising questions about his position and long-term future at the club.
However, his situation has improved considerably following impressive performances against Deportivo Alaves and Aston Villa. The youngster has finally demonstrated why Flick insisted on keeping him at Barcelona despite his limited opportunities earlier in the season.
During the summer transfer window, Farinas came close to leaving the Catalan club after Girona reportedly submitted an offer worth €1.5 million for 50 per cent of his economic rights. Barcelona were open to considering the proposal, but Flick stepped in after being impressed by the youngster's versatility, football intelligence and attitude during pre-season.
The German tactician eventually decided that Farinas should remain with the senior team, although the youngster had to wait several weeks before getting his first real opportunity.
His breakthrough came in an unfamiliar position, as Flick decided to deploy him at right-back despite the fact that he had developed as a midfielder at La Masia.
Farinas was handed a starting role against Deportivo Alaves, where Barcelona secured an emphatic 6-1 victory. He delivered an impressive performance, completing 101 passes, making six possession recoveries and developing a promising understanding with Lamine Yamal on the right flank.
His display was particularly impressive because he adapted comfortably to a position different from the one he had traditionally played during his development.
The youngster maintained his momentum in Barcelona's subsequent Champions League encounter against Aston Villa, producing another encouraging performance on his European debut. Despite facing an English side that had won its opening three matches in the competition, Farinas displayed confidence and composure throughout the encounter.
He demonstrated good defensive awareness, dealt effectively with opposition pressure and continued to combine well with Yamal in attacking situations. He also completed 11 passes in the final third, equalling Pedri's tally and underlining his contribution to Barcelona's offensive play.
His performances in both matches have provided further evidence that Flick was right to reject the possibility of allowing him to leave during the summer transfer window.
Farinas' versatility could prove particularly useful as Barcelona continue to navigate a demanding season, especially with the manager needing players capable of covering different positions.
Although his opportunities might become limited again when injured defenders return to full fitness, the youngster has already shown that he can offer valuable support in multiple areas of the pitch.
Barcelona already have several options in midfield and defence, but having a young player who can adapt to different roles gives Flick additional flexibility when making his selection decisions.
Farinas' willingness to follow the manager's instructions has also contributed to his progress. After making his debut, the youngster revealed that Flick had asked whether he was comfortable playing as a right-back.
He explained that he was willing to play in any position the manager required, demonstrating the attitude and adaptability that have helped him earn Flick's confidence.
