According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos defeated Puerto Rico 2-0 in their second Group B match at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco.
The victory gave Akeem Busari's side their first three points of the tournament after they lost 2-1 to Poland in their opening fixture.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 25th minute, giving the Flamingos an early advantage as they looked to recover from their disappointing start to the competition.
The Nigerian side maintained their lead despite Puerto Rico's efforts to find an equaliser. Nigeria remained organised defensively, preventing their opponents from converting their opportunities as the contest progressed.
Puerto Rico continued to search for a way back into the match, but the Flamingos held firm to protect their advantage and keep their opponents from getting back on level terms.
Nigeria eventually secured the victory deep into stoppage time when Precious Oscar scored the second goal to put the result beyond doubt.
Oscar's late strike ensured that the Flamingos collected all three points and improved their position in Group B ahead of their final group-stage fixture.
The result moved Nigeria into second place in the group with three points from two matches. They remain behind defending champions DPR Korea, who lead the standings with six points after recording a convincing 6-1 victory over Poland earlier on Tuesday.
DPR Korea had opened their campaign with a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico before extending their winning run against Poland, establishing themselves as the leading contenders in Group B.
Nigeria's victory over Puerto Rico keeps their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive after their opening defeat to Poland. However, the Flamingos face a difficult final group match against DPR Korea on Friday.
The encounter will be crucial to Nigeria's chances of progressing to the Round of 16 as the team seeks to build on its improved performance against Puerto Rico.
The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is being staged in Morocco, with Nigeria competing among 24 nations for the title. The Flamingos will need another positive result in their remaining group fixture to strengthen their chances of advancing to the next round.
