According to a report by daily post Nigeria on Thursday November 5, 2026, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes Estevao could create a difficult selection dilemma for Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso when Joao Pedro returns from injury.
The Brazilian winger earned his first Premier League start of the season against Manchester United last weekend and made the most of the opportunity.
Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, with Estevao impressing through his energy, confidence and willingness to take on defenders.
His performance has strengthened the case for more regular playing time, but Chelsea have several talented attacking options competing for places.
Gerrard expects that competition to become even more intense once Joao Pedro is available again. Pedro Neto’s quality adds another challenge for Alonso as he considers how to balance his forward line.
Speaking on The Overlap, Gerrard described Estevao as an exciting player who is eager to prove himself to his manager.
“He is exciting and great to watch,” Gerrard said. “He is desperate to impress the manager. And he is going to give Xabi Alonso a problem when Joao Pedro comes back, because Pedro Neto is a great player as well.”
Gerrard’s comments point to a positive problem for Chelsea: a growing group of players capable of influencing matches.
Estevao’s start against Manchester United offered a glimpse of what he can bring, while the expected return of Joao Pedro could give Alonso more options in attack.
The challenge will be finding the right combination without disrupting the team’s balance.
If Estevao continues to perform at a high level, Alonso may have a tough decision to make when Pedro is fit again.
For the young Brazilian, the immediate task is to build on his impressive display and show that he deserves a place in Chelsea’s plans.
