Fabrizio Romano Confirms New Contract For ‘Crucial’ Arsenal Player is Now in its ‘Final Stages’

According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Arsenal are making encouraging progress in negotiations with Declan Rice over a new long-term contract, with discussions reportedly approaching their final stages.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano provided the latest update in a video shared on X, revealing that the Gunners are working to secure the midfielder’s future as they look to retain one of the most influential members of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Negotiations have advanced considerably in recent weeks, with the two parties reportedly close to resolving the outstanding details. According to Romano, the remaining discussions centre on the length and specific terms of the proposed agreement, while the salary negotiations are understood to be nearing completion.

Arsenal are increasingly hopeful of reaching an agreement, particularly given Rice’s importance to the club’s long-term ambitions. The England international is highly regarded by the supporters, his teammates, the club’s hierarchy and Arteta, making his renewal a significant priority.

Previous reports from BBC Sport have also indicated that negotiations are progressing positively, adding to expectations that an agreement could be reached in the coming weeks.

Under the proposed deal, Rice’s weekly wages could increase from approximately £240,000 to £350,000. Such an improvement would place him among Arsenal’s highest earners, alongside influential figures such as Bukayo Saka.

Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham United in 2023 for a reported £105 million, setting a club transfer record at the time. His current contract runs until 2028, with Arsenal holding an option to extend it by a further year.

Despite having several years remaining on his existing agreement, the Gunners are keen to reward his contributions and strengthen his commitment to Arteta’s long-term project. Reports also suggest that the midfielder remains happy at the Emirates Stadium.

Rice once again demonstrated his value during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, making an important defensive block that helped Arsenal preserve their advantage and secure three valuable Premier League points.

With negotiations reportedly nearing a conclusion, Arsenal will hope to finalise the midfielder’s future while continuing to rely on his consistency and influence on the pitch. Rice will also be expected to play an important role when the Gunners face Bayern Munich in Wednesday’s crucial Champions League encounter.
