Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard Says Three Teams Can Rival Arsenal For The Premier League Title

According to a report by Metro on Monday, November 2, 2026, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has backed Arsenal to retain the Premier League title, identifying Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea as their biggest challengers this season.

Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table after recording an important 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. The result became even more significant after Manchester City suffered an unexpected home defeat against Brighton, allowing Mikel Arteta’s side to increase their advantage in the title race.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal against Liverpool, with Arsenal demonstrating the determination and defensive discipline required to secure maximum points in a difficult away fixture.

Reacting to the result on The Overlap Daily, sponsored by Sky Bet, Gerrard praised Arsenal’s ability to produce different types of performances and win matches under challenging circumstances.

The former England international believes such victories are particularly important in a title race, explaining that successful teams must be capable of grinding out results even when they are not at their best.

Gerrard highlighted Arsenal’s resilience, togetherness and fighting spirit at Anfield, suggesting that their ability to withstand Liverpool’s pressure demonstrated why they remain strong favourites for the championship.

He also maintained his prediction that Arteta’s team would finish the campaign as Premier League winners, arguing that collecting three points at difficult venues could make a significant difference when the season reaches its conclusion.

However, Gerrard acknowledged that Liverpool still have plenty of work to do if they hope to challenge Arsenal, particularly with the Merseyside club currently sitting nine points behind the league leaders.

The former Liverpool captain also discussed Brighton’s impressive progress following their victory over Manchester City.

He praised Fabian Hurzeler’s side for their tactical organisation, attacking quality and fearless approach against stronger opponents. He also highlighted the improvements they have made defensively, describing Brighton as a team with an excellent manager and considerable potential.

Nevertheless, Gerrard believes Brighton are more likely to compete for Champions League qualification than sustain a challenge for the Premier League title over the course of the entire season.

He suggested that Arsenal’s more established rivals possess the experience and squad quality to eventually pull away from Brighton in the standings.

Gerrard ultimately identified Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea as the three teams most likely to challenge Arsenal for the championship, despite acknowledging Brighton’s impressive performances.

The former midfielder remains convinced that Arsenal’s squad depth, defensive organisation and ability to win matches in different ways could prove decisive as they attempt to secure another Premier League title.
