Nigeria's Flamingos have secured a historic place in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time after defeating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final clash in Morocco.
According to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Nigerian side delivered an impressive second-half performance to overcome Brazil after both teams failed to score in the opening 45 minutes.
Queen Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, converting a pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi to put Nigeria ahead. The Flamingos maintained their attacking momentum, with Joseph turning provider in the 71st minute as she assisted Awawu Bashiru, who extended the team's lead.
Bashiru completed her brace in the 80th minute after receiving a pass from Oluebube Umejiaku to make it 3-0 and put Nigeria firmly in control of the encounter.
Brazil managed to pull one goal back in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, who converted an assist from Yasmin Queiroz. However, Nigeria held on to their advantage until the final whistle to confirm their qualification for the championship match.
The victory represents Nigeria's best-ever achievement at the tournament, surpassing their previous record of reaching the semi-finals and finishing third in the 2022 edition.
The Flamingos will now face Japan in Saturday's final after the Asian team defeated defending champions North Korea in the other semi-final.
Nigeria's route to the final has been particularly impressive, considering their 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening match. They recovered from that setback with victories over Puerto Rico and North Korea before eliminating Mexico in the round of 16 and Venezuela in the quarter-finals.
The upcoming final presents the Flamingos with an opportunity to win Nigeria's first FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title and make further history in the country's women's football.
