"Reaching the final is a plus for our country" — Busari proud of Flamingos’ remarkable final feat

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Nigeria U-17 women's national team head coach, Akeem Busari, has expressed his pride after leading the Flamingos to the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Busari described the team's achievement as remarkable, insisting that their qualification for the final represents a major boost for Nigerian football and the country as a whole.

The Flamingos secured their place in the final after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in their semi-final encounter on Wednesday night.

The match was played at the Mohammed VI Football Complex Pitch 3 in Rabat, Morocco, where the Nigerian youngsters produced an outstanding performance to overcome their Brazilian opponents.

Busari's side dominated proceedings from start to finish, showing determination and attacking quality to book their place in the final of the competition.

The victory also represents a historic moment for African football, as Nigeria have become the first African country to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

The Flamingos' journey to the final has been particularly impressive considering how they started the tournament.

Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening fixture, raising questions about their chances of progressing far in the competition.

However, the young Nigerian players responded positively to that setback and continued to improve as the tournament progressed.

Their impressive performances eventually took them to the semi-finals, where they produced a convincing display to eliminate Brazil and secure a historic final appearance.

According to Daily Post, Nigeria have also become the second nation since 2014 to recover from losing their opening match and eventually reach the final of the tournament.

Speaking to FIFA after the victory over Brazil, Busari expressed his happiness and described the achievement as a significant moment for the country.

"It's an awesome thing, it's a great achievement," the Flamingos coach said.

"Reaching the final is a plus for our country, it's a plus for our football. We are happy."

Busari's comments underline the importance of the team's achievement, particularly as Nigeria have now given Africa its first representative in the final of the U-17 Women's World Cup.

The qualification is also a major milestone for the Flamingos, who have continued to demonstrate resilience, discipline and determination throughout the competition.

Their victory over Brazil has further increased expectations surrounding the team as they prepare for the biggest match of their campaign.

For Nigerian football, reaching the final is an important achievement and another opportunity to showcase the country's growing presence in women's youth football.

The Flamingos will now turn their attention to the final as they look to complete their remarkable campaign by lifting the trophy for the first time in the country's history.
