According to a report by TNT Sports on Sunday October 18, 2026, Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has praised Portugal national team coach Jorge Jesus for helping him improve his finishing after scoring twice in the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton.
Neto was the difference between the two sides at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, finding the net twice in the second half to secure an important win for Chelsea and help the team record their first Premier League clean sheet of the 2026/27 season.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, the Portuguese international revealed that advice from Jesus had influenced his approach in front of goal, particularly when shooting from close range.
“This comes a little bit from the new coach of the national team, who says when you are near the area, you need to pass to the goal, so really happy with that,” Neto said.
Jesus’ advice has encouraged Neto to focus more on accuracy and placement rather than simply relying on power when attempting to score. The Chelsea winger’s brace against Everton provided an encouraging example of his ability to make the most of his opportunities.
Neto also expressed satisfaction with Chelsea’s overall performance, highlighting the importance of keeping a clean sheet in a difficult away fixture.
“We need a clean sheet, to be honest. I think we did a very good game. Emi deserved this, Mike as well,” he added.
The winger’s praise for Jesus comes just weeks after reports of a disagreement between the coach and Cristiano Ronaldo during Portugal’s international campaign.
According to the report, Ronaldo was unhappy after Jesus did not bring him off the bench during Portugal’s victory over Norway. However, Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença described the incident as a misunderstanding that needed to be resolved internally.
Proença also reaffirmed Ronaldo’s importance to Portugal, describing him as an icon and stressing that there was time for discussions to resolve the situation.
While the reported disagreement has attracted attention, Neto’s comments focused on the positive impact Jesus has had on his finishing. His praise does not indicate that he has taken sides in the situation involving Ronaldo.
