According to a report by Manchesterevening News on Thursday October 29, 2026, in preparation for Manchester United's forthcoming Premier League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, manager Michael Carrick has promoted four academy prospects to the first team.
Harry Amass, Jack Fletcher, Jariyah Shah, and Jim Thwaites are the young players who have been confirmed to be involved by the club on its official website. Incorporating them gives Carrick a chance to evaluate up-and-coming players before a tough away match.
Chelsea and Manchester United have had a long-running rivalry, which has resulted in numerous memorable matches in the last few seasons. In April 2024, they played to a thrilling 4-3 draw; Chelsea's Cole Palmer scored twice in the last seconds to seal the deal.
After that, in September of 2025, United won 2-1 at Old Trafford, despite the fact that both teams ended that tumultuous match with ten players. Another difficult test awaits Carrick's team in their most recent encounter.
On Wednesday, the team trained in front of the cameras before Carrick and his coaching staff moved inside to finish getting ready.
In comparison to the other three children, Amass has more life experience under his belt. The left-back has made appearances for United's first team in the past and was on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City last season. Since then, he's gone back to Carrington, where he might find more opportunities.
Fletcher has already debuted for the senior team; his father, Darren Fletcher, was a midfielder for Manchester United. With his inclusion, Carrick now has another intriguing midfielder to assess in the lead-up to Saturday's match.
Shah has kept making strides through United's youth system; he drew a recent Under-18 match against Chelsea, giving him experience playing against players from another prestigious academy.
Thwaites, meantime, is lauded for his distribution, set-piece prowess, and technical attributes. The midfielder has been through preseason training with the first team and made an appearance off the bench last year, but he has yet to make his competitive debut.
Good news for United fans: Kobbie Mainoo has returned to group training after an injury sidelined him for four games in a row.
Participation from the academy quartet does not ensure a starting spot against Chelsea, but Carrick can use the session to gage their preparedness and explore other options for the team.
