According to a report by GOAL on Tuesday November 3, 2026, the father of Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal, Mounir Nasraoui, has revealed the truth about his son's real name, explaining that the name Yamal is not actually his surname.
The 19-year-old has become one of the most recognisable footballers in the world following his impressive performances for Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
However, despite his growing popularity, many football fans have misunderstood an important detail about his name.
His father has now stepped forward to clarify the situation, revealing that Lamine Yamal is his son's compound first name, while his actual surname is Nasraoui Ebana.
Speaking during a live broadcast, Mounir Nasraoui urged supporters and the media to understand the correct structure of his son's name.
"I'm going to tell you something, guys," he said. "His name is Lamine Yamal, but Yamal is not his surname. His surname is Nasraoui Ebana. I want everyone to understand that. So, don't get confused."
Nasraoui also explained why he regularly addresses his son using the full name Lamine Yamal, insisting that the two names should be treated together.
He further expressed his confidence in the Barcelona forward's abilities, making a bold statement about his son's influence on the pitch.
"You will never be at the top as long as Lamine Yamal is on the pitch," he added.
Interestingly, Yamal himself previously addressed the issue when he spoke to Mundo Deportivo at the age of 16.
The Barcelona youngster explained that he preferred to be called Lamine Yamal, although he would not mind people shortening his name to Lamine.
"My name is Lamine Yamal, but if you want to shorten it, then Lamine," he said.
The revelation comes as the teenager continues to enjoy an outstanding period in his football career.
Yamal has already won two La Liga titles with Barcelona, while also helping Spain win the European Championship and the World Cup.
He finished third in the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings, behind winner Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, further underlining his growing reputation in world football.
The winger has also taken over Barcelona's iconic No. 10 shirt, previously associated with club legend Lionel Messi.
According to the report, Yamal has recorded 12 goals and 11 assists this season, including an impressive performance against Alaves, where he scored twice and provided an assist in Barcelona's 6-1 victory.
Despite his father's clarification, Lamine Yamal remains the name printed on the back of his Barcelona shirt and the identity by which he is recognised across the football world.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are preparing for two important fixtures, starting with their Champions League meeting against Aston Villa at Camp Nou on Tuesday.
Hansi Flick's side will then travel to face Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Sunday as they look to maintain their strong form across competitions.
