According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas remains a potential managerial option for the club as pressure begins to build on current boss Xabi Alonso following a disappointing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Alonso is preparing for his 11th match in charge of Chelsea, with a difficult trip to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup fourth round awaiting him on Wednesday night.
Chelsea have won four of their eight Premier League matches under the Spaniard but have also suffered three defeats, including a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Tottenham on Sunday.
The result raised concerns among supporters, particularly after Chelsea struggled to impose themselves against their London rivals.
Although defeats against Arsenal and Brentford had already exposed weaknesses, the performance against Tottenham increased scrutiny of Alonso's early spell at Stamford Bridge.
According to the report, Como manager Fabregas remains a name to watch should Chelsea eventually consider alternative options. The Spaniard attracted interest from his former club before Alonso's appointment in the summer.
Fabregas has continued to enhance his reputation in Italy, with Como competing in the upper reaches of Serie A. Their impressive 4-1 Champions League victory over Manchester United has further strengthened his growing profile as a coach.
However, there is no indication that Chelsea are preparing to dismiss Alonso, with the club reportedly expected to give him time to implement his ideas.
The report also highlighted the injury problems affecting Alonso's team. Emi Martinez, Reece James, Joao Pedro, Pep Chavarria, Jamie Gittens and Emmanuel Emegha are among the players currently unavailable, limiting the manager's options.
Chelsea now face a demanding week, beginning with Wednesday's visit to Liverpool before hosting Manchester United in the Premier League. Cole Palmer will miss the Carabao Cup encounter through suspension following his dismissal against Tottenham.
The Liverpool match could provide Alonso with an opportunity to restore confidence, although the subsequent meeting with Manchester United carries significant importance for Chelsea's league ambitions.
