‘Our Defenders Will Neutralise Him’ — Muriqi Warns Osimhen Ahead of Derby

According to Daily Post Nigeria, published on October 26, 2026, Fenerbahçe forward Vedat Muriqi has backed his team’s defence to contain Victor Osimhen when they face Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig derby at Rams Park.

Muriqi acknowledged the Nigerian striker’s quality but expressed confidence that his teammates could limit the threat he poses in attack. Speaking to beIN Sports ahead of Monday’s encounter, the Fenerbahçe forward emphasised the importance of defensive organisation and teamwork.

“He’s a very strong and good player, but I trust my teammates,” Muriqi said, according to the report.

He added that Fenerbahçe’s defensive line could neutralise Osimhen’s pace and gain the upper hand during the match.

The comments come as Osimhen prepares for another meeting with one of Galatasaray’s biggest rivals. Since joining the Istanbul club, the Nigerian international has remained unbeaten in five official appearances against Fenerbahçe, according to the supplied report.

His record includes two wins and two draws in four league encounters, with one goal. He also scored twice in Galatasaray’s 2–1 victory over Fenerbahçe in the 2024–25 Turkish Cup quarter-final.

Those performances provide important context ahead of Monday’s derby, although Muriqi believes his side can approach the challenge with confidence.

Osimhen’s recent league outings have been less productive in front of goal. He failed to score in Galatasaray’s victories over Kasımpaşa and Gençlerbirliği before finding the net against his former club Lille in the UEFA Champions League.

That goal ended his brief scoring drought and gave him another opportunity to build momentum ahead of the derby.

Muriqi’s remarks underline Fenerbahçe’s belief that a coordinated defensive effort can restrict the Nigerian forward’s movement and pace. However, whether that approach succeeds will depend on how both teams perform during the match.

The meeting at Rams Park is an important fixture for the Istanbul rivals, with Osimhen expected to be a key attacking figure for Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe looking to prevent him from making a decisive impact.
