EPL Table Ahead of Chelsea Vs Manchester United Match

According to a report by NBC Sports on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the English Premier League standings have attracted considerable attention ahead of today's highly anticipated encounter between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Both clubs enter the ninth round of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign in contrasting positions, with Chelsea hoping to strengthen their challenge for a Champions League qualification place while Manchester United desperately need points to improve their disappointing league position.

Manchester City currently lead the Premier League standings with 21 points from eight matches. The defending title contenders have recorded seven victories and one defeat, maintaining first position through their superior goal difference.

Arsenal occupy second place with the same 21 points after eight matches, while Brighton sit third with 16 points. Liverpool complete the top four with 15 points, leaving the competition for the leading positions increasingly competitive.

Chelsea are currently fifth in the standings with 13 points from eight league appearances. The Blues have registered four victories, one draw and three defeats, scoring 17 goals and conceding 15.

A victory against Manchester United would increase Chelsea's points tally to 16, potentially allowing Xabi Alonso's side to move into the Champions League qualification positions, depending on goal difference and results elsewhere.

Brentford occupy sixth position with 11 points, followed by Leeds United in seventh place with the same total. Newcastle United and Aston Villa also have 11 points, while Hull City complete the top ten with 10 points.

Everton sit eleventh with 10 points, ahead of Ipswich Town, who have also collected 10 points. Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur occupy thirteenth and fourteenth positions respectively with nine points each.

Fulham are fifteenth with eight points, while Manchester United find themselves in sixteenth position after managing just seven points from eight Premier League matches.

Michael Carrick's side have recorded only one victory, alongside four draws and three defeats. Their struggles have been reflected in their goal difference of minus three, having scored 10 goals while conceding 13.

Manchester United's most recent Premier League outing ended in a disappointing 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth, increasing the pressure on the team ahead of their trip to London.

Crystal Palace are seventeenth with seven points, while Nottingham Forest occupy eighteenth position with six points. Coventry City are nineteenth with six points, leaving Sunderland at the bottom of the standings with five points.

Today's encounter between Chelsea and Manchester United is scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm UK time, corresponding to 1:30 pm Nigerian time.

A victory for Manchester United would take their points tally to 10, potentially helping them climb several positions depending on other results. However, another defeat could leave the Red Devils facing further pressure near the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be determined to capitalise on home advantage and close the gap on the teams occupying the top four positions.

With Manchester City, Arsenal, Brighton and Liverpool currently leading the standings, the outcome at Stamford Bridge could have significant implications for both clubs as the Premier League campaign continues.
