According to a report by Daily Post on Friday October 23, 2026, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has decided against removing Bruno Fernandes as the club’s captain despite the midfielder’s criticism of his tactics following the 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como.
According to reports, Fernandes will retain the captaincy and is also unlikely to face disciplinary action from the club over his comments.
The Portugal international criticised Carrick’s tactical decisions after United suffered a humiliating defeat against Como on Wednesday night, extending their winless run to seven matches in all competitions.
The result has increased the pressure on Carrick, who is facing growing scrutiny over his position at Old Trafford following the team’s disappointing performances.
However, United’s hierarchy have reportedly decided to continue backing the manager for now, with Carrick expected to lead the team when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
Despite the club’s decision to retain Carrick, several managers have been linked with the United job as speculation over his future continues.
Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are among the coaches reportedly linked with the position.
Fernandes remains one of United’s most influential players, and the decision not to strip him of the captaincy suggests the club are not planning to punish him for speaking out after the Como defeat.
Attention will now turn to Sunday’s encounter with Bournemouth, as United look to end their winless run and ease the pressure surrounding the club.
