Rio Ferdinand Reveals Why Tevez Was Different in Training and on Match Day

According to a post by Rio Ferdinand on X, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has praised Carlos Tevez for his relentless playing style and team-first attitude, recalling their experiences together at the club in a post shared on X.

Ferdinand described Tevez as an exceptional footballer and teammate, explaining that the Argentine could be a demanding opponent during training but someone his teammates wanted beside them when it was time to play a competitive match.

According to Ferdinand, the intensity Tevez brought to training meant players did not always want to be on the same side as him during practice.

However, his determination and commitment to the collective effort made him an important teammate on match day.

Ferdinand also highlighted Tevez’s selflessness, saying that one of the qualities he admired most was the way the forward put the team first.

His comments reflected the respect he developed for the Argentine during their time playing together.

The former defender also reminisced about Manchester United’s attacking combination of Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, describing it as a privilege to have played alongside the trio.

Ferdinand’s post accompanied the latest episode of his interview programme, Rio Meets, featuring a conversation with Tevez about his football journey, career and experiences on and off the pitch.

He also mentioned Tevez’s decision to join Manchester City, Manchester United’s local rivals, a move that remains a notable part of the Argentine’s career story.

Another point Ferdinand raised was Tevez’s effort to speak English during parts of the interview.

Ferdinand said Tevez had not spoken English in the dressing room or to the press, making his willingness to use the language during their conversation something he appreciated.

The interview gives the former teammates an opportunity to reflect on their playing days and discuss experiences that shaped Tevez’s life and career.

Ferdinand also expressed his hope that viewers would enjoy watching the conversation as much as he enjoyed making it.

His recollections offer a personal look at Tevez’s competitive character, his contribution to the team and the memories shared by players who featured together during a notable period in Manchester United’s history.
