According to a report by Football London on Friday, October 30, 2026, Chelsea are preparing to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge as manager Xabi Alonso attempts to guide his team out of a disappointing run of consecutive defeats.
The Blues suffered a 2-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur before their Carabao Cup campaign ended against Liverpool following a penalty shootout at Anfield. These results have increased the pressure on Alonso to deliver an improved performance against United.
Chelsea's preparations have also been complicated by injuries involving Joao Pedro and Maxence Lacroix, while goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez remains unavailable as he continues his recovery.
Manchester United are also experiencing difficulties under Michael Carrick. Their disappointing results against Como, Bournemouth and Tottenham have raised further questions about the manager's position and the team's overall performances.
Despite Chelsea's injury concerns, Crouch believes the London club have enough quality to take advantage of their home ground and secure victory.
Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, the former England international discussed the challenges facing both teams and said: "It was a strange one with Chelsea, mad one. I didn’t see that coming. It will be interesting; at the time of recording, Carrick is still in charge, but if he is still in charge, it is a difficult one to navigate."
He continued by highlighting Chelsea's injury problems and Manchester United's internal difficulties, adding: "Especially having fallen out with Bruno. Joao Pedro is injured, Martinez is injured, and the goalkeeper had a howler against Spurs. I don’t like it. You’d expect Chelsea to win. I’m going Chelsea 2-1."
Sidwell also expects Chelsea to emerge victorious, although he anticipates a much tighter contest than Crouch.
"Big game for Chelsea. I’ve done a couple of draws, and they’ve come in, but I do see this being a draw. But I’m going to go Chelsea 1-0," the former Chelsea midfielder said.
Chelsea will also be motivated to improve their recent head-to-head record against Manchester United. Since the 2018 FA Cup final, both sides have played 19 times, with United winning eight matches, Chelsea claiming three victories and eight encounters ending in draws.
Another encouraging development for Alonso is Cole Palmer's return from suspension, which provides additional creativity and attacking quality ahead of Saturday's important fixture.
With both teams seeking a response to their recent struggles, the Stamford Bridge encounter could prove significant for their respective Premier League campaigns.
