According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday October 28, 2026, Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed why he opted to join Turkish second-division club Bursaspor despite interest from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
Iheanacho spent the 2025–26 season on loan at Celtic, scoring nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions and helping the club win a domestic double.
However, contract negotiations with the Scottish giants broke down in July 2026, paving the way for the Nigerian international to join Bursaspor as a free agent.
Speaking on Bursaspor's official YouTube channel, the 30-year-old explained that his agent informed him about the Turkish club's interest while he remained focused on his football.
"To be fair, I don't talk about transfers. I really try to concentrate on my football. The transfer talks were done with the agents and directors," Iheanacho said.
He added that his agent explained the opportunity in detail before he agreed to the move.
"Of course, I am aware of the transfer talks. I don't really know how they were contacted, but I was told by my agent that Bursaspor were in contact", he added.
Iheanacho also highlighted Bursaspor's history as one of the reasons he accepted the offer despite interest from other European clubs.
"I said this is a good place to go, and they have a good history as well," the striker stated.
Reflecting on the transfer process, Iheanacho admitted that the negotiations took some time before everything was finalised.
"Moving forward, we delayed a little bit, but in the end, here we are now, enjoying every moment of it," he said.
The Nigerian forward has made an impressive start to life in Turkey, reportedly scoring in 12 consecutive matches during the 2026–27 season.
However, Bursaspor are now monitoring his fitness after he suffered an injury during Sunday's 4–2 victory over Ankara Keçiörengücü.
Coach Mustafa Er will be hoping the striker recovers in time for the upcoming clash against Bandırmaspor.
