City stayed at the summit despite suffering their first league defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side remain on 21 points, with a superior goal difference keeping them above Arsenal.
Arsenal also have 21 points after extending their winning run with a 2-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side have now won seven of their opening eight league games, with their only defeat coming against Liverpool earlier in the campaign.
Brighton & Hove Albion occupy third position with 16 points. Their impressive start suffered a setback on Sunday when they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at Anfield. The defeat ended Brighton’s unbeaten run in the league and allowed Liverpool to move into fourth place.

Chelsea remain fifth on 13 points despite their 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Brentford, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are next, with each club sitting on 11 points.
Newcastle climbed the table after recording a 2-0 victory away to Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Aston Villa made significant progress with their win over Manchester City. Hull City, Everton and Ipswich Town complete the next group of teams, all with 10 points.
Further down the table, Bournemouth moved up to 13th after producing one of Sunday’s biggest results. The Cherries defeated Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, leaving United 16th with seven points and just one point above the relegation zone.
