Peter Crouch and Steve Sidwell disagree when predicting result as Chelsea face Everton hoodoo

According to a report by Football London on Thursday, October 15, 2026, former England striker Peter Crouch and ex-Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell have shared different predictions ahead of the meeting, with both anticipating an entertaining contest.

Chelsea approach the fixture in fifth place following an emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth, a result that ended their three-match winless run in the league. The performance provided a welcome boost after defeats against Arsenal and Brentford, alongside a draw with Hull City.

Despite their recent improvement, the London club face a difficult test against Everton, who are managed by David Moyes. Chelsea have managed just one victory in their previous eight visits to Everton, suffering six defeats during that period. They will also be eager to avoid another disappointing result after losing 3-0 at Goodison Park last season.

Speaking on the That Peter Crouch Podcast, Crouch predicted that Chelsea would claim a 3-1 victory. Sidwell offered a more cautious assessment, forecasting a 2-2 draw between the two sides.

Alonso will take encouragement from the availability of important players, including Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo, as Chelsea seek to maintain the momentum gained from their Bournemouth triumph.

Morgan Rogers and Jordan Henderson are also expected to contribute as the team prepares for the demanding fixture.

However, Chelsea’s defensive weaknesses remain a concern despite their impressive attacking display in the previous match. Their victory over Bournemouth ended a frustrating run of 22 Premier League games without keeping a clean sheet, highlighting the difficulties they have experienced at the back.

The Blues have conceded 13 league goals this season, leaving Alonso with significant defensive improvements to make if they hope to challenge consistently for major honours.

Caicedo’s return to midfield could be particularly important, as his ability to recover possession and protect the defence may help provide greater stability against Everton’s attacking threats.

Chelsea will nevertheless be without Reece James and Jamie Gittens, with Gittens potentially facing an extended period on the sidelines.

A victory on Saturday would give Chelsea successive Premier League wins and create an opportunity to move above Everton in the standings. However, overcoming their poor away record against Moyes’ side remains a significant challenge for Alonso and his players.
