According to a report by Evening Standard on Friday, October 16, 2026, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has provided an injury update on Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko ahead of Sunday's Premier League meeting with Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Red Devils are dealing with several fitness concerns as they prepare for the trip to Leeds, with Carrick hoping to have some of his key players available as the team attempts to end its disappointing run of results.
Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League during the week, extending their recent struggles and increasing the pressure ahead of Sunday's encounter.
Shaw and Mainoo were both unavailable for the European fixture because of injuries. The England international left-back is recovering from a thigh problem, while Mainoo sustained a knock during United's 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Their availability for the Leeds match remains uncertain, with Carrick confirming that further assessments would determine whether either player could return to action.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, the United manager indicated that the club would continue monitoring both players before making a final decision on their involvement.
The potential return of Shaw and Mainoo would provide a boost to a Manchester United side seeking greater stability after struggling to produce consistent performances in recent matches.
However, Sesko faces a more difficult situation as he continues to struggle with a shin problem that has affected him since the latter part of last season.
The Slovenian striker is one of United's two recognised centre-forwards, making his continued absence a concern for Carrick as the team prepares for another important league fixture.
The manager confirmed that Sesko would undergo further medical checks but suggested that the forward remained further away from a return than Shaw and Mainoo.
His availability for Sunday's match therefore appears less likely, with Manchester United waiting for clearer information about his recovery.
Meanwhile, the injury update comes at a challenging period for United, who have gone five matches without a victory. Their last win came in a 4-0 triumph over Sabah in the Champions League last month.
The defeat against Atletico Madrid also sparked controversy involving defender Lisandro Martinez, who criticised the club's hierarchy and director of football Jason Wilcox.
Martinez subsequently apologised following discussions with Carrick and club secretary Omar Berrada. The Argentine defender is available for selection against Leeds after the matter was addressed.
Despite United's recent results and the uncertainty surrounding several players, Carrick remains confident in the squad's condition as they prepare for Sunday's fixture.
Manchester United currently sit 12th in the Premier League table and will aim to secure a positive result against Leeds while awaiting further updates on Shaw, Mainoo and Sesko.
