Luis Enrique Praises Dembélé’s Barcelona Background, Highlights His Tactical Understanding

According to a report by Fabrizio romano on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has highlighted the influence of Ousmane Dembélé’s time at Barcelona, explaining that the French forward’s football education has helped him understand and adapt to the coach’s preferred style of play.

Enrique believes players who have experienced Barcelona’s football philosophy often find it easier to understand his tactical expectations because of their familiarity with possession-based football, intelligent movement and coordinated attacking play.

Speaking about Dembélé, the PSG manager praised the foundation the winger developed during his years at the Spanish club, suggesting that the knowledge he gained there continues to benefit him in his current career.

“Ousmane Dembélé was in the best football school at Barcelona. He already knows everything!” Enrique said.

The coach further explained that a player with Barcelona experience can quickly recognise the principles he wants to implement on the pitch.

“A player who comes from Barcelona adapts to what I like in football, he understands perfectly,” he added.

Dembélé joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, spending several seasons with the Catalan side before returning to France to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2023. His time in Spain exposed him to a demanding football environment where technical ability, quick passing and effective movement played important roles in the team's approach.

At PSG, the winger has continued to showcase his pace, dribbling skills and creativity, qualities that make him a valuable option in the final third. His ability to beat defenders, create scoring opportunities and operate across different attacking positions gives Enrique flexibility when planning his team's offensive approach.

Enrique’s remarks also underline the connection between his coaching philosophy and the principles associated with Barcelona. Having previously managed the club, he understands the demands of its playing style and values players who can recognise those principles without requiring extensive adjustment.

For Dembélé, that familiarity could prove particularly useful as PSG continue to pursue success in domestic and European competitions. His technical qualities, combined with his understanding of Enrique’s expectations, provide the manager with another important asset in attack.

The praise reflects Enrique’s confidence in Dembélé’s football intelligence and the foundation he developed in Spain, while highlighting how a player's previous experience can influence his ability to adapt to a new team and tactical system.
