Turkish Super Lig Table After Galatasaray Won 1-0

Galatasaray claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, October 17, 2026, with a late own goal proving decisive in a closely contested encounter, according to BBC Sport.

The visitors entered the fixture aiming to maintain their impressive league form, but Gençlerbirliği made them work hard for the victory. The hosts defended with determination throughout the opening half, limiting Galatasaray’s attacking opportunities and ensuring the teams went into the break without a goal.

Galatasaray enjoyed periods of possession but struggled to find a way through their opponents’ defensive setup. With neither side able to convert their chances, the first half ended goalless.

After the restart, Galatasaray made substitutions in an attempt to inject more creativity and attacking urgency into their performance. İlkay Gündoğan, Yunus Akgün and Rafael Leão were among the players introduced as the visitors intensified their search for a breakthrough.

Despite their increased pressure, Galatasaray had to wait until the closing stages to find the decisive goal. In the 88th minute, Gençlerbirliği goalkeeper İrfan Eğribayat inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing the visitors a crucial late advantage.

The hosts attempted to salvage a point during the remaining minutes, but Galatasaray held firm defensively and prevented them from finding an equaliser before the final whistle, which came after five minutes of added time.

Victor Osimhen was booked in the 90th minute as the contest approached its conclusion, but the yellow card did little to affect Galatasaray’s ability to protect their lead.

The narrow victory provides Galatasaray with another important three points in their pursuit of domestic success and helps them maintain their position at the top of the Turkish Super Lig standings. Gençlerbirliği, meanwhile, were left disappointed after conceding so late and dropped to 14th place following the defeat.
