According to a report by Football London on Saturday October 31, 2026, Xabi Alonso has praised Estevao Willian following Chelsea’s impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, admitting that the young Brazilian’s performance has given him more reasons to consider increasing his playing time.

The 19-year-old winger received his first Premier League start of the season and delivered an encouraging display. Although two of his efforts were ruled out for offside, Estevao demonstrated his attacking qualities and made a positive impression on his manager.

Despite limited opportunities at Chelsea this season, Estevao continues to attract attention internationally. Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has included the talented youngster in the national squad for the upcoming international fixtures, highlighting his growing reputation.

Speaking after Saturday’s match, Alonso expressed satisfaction with Estevao’s contribution and explained that the winger had earned his opportunity through his efforts.

“Estevao did really well. I am happy for him. He deserved this chance and the opportunity to give back,” Alonso told TNT Sports.

The Chelsea manager also acknowledged that the performance had strengthened the youngster’s argument for receiving more minutes on the pitch. He added: “Absolutely, [his performance] has given him more reasons to say ‘coach I want to play more minutes.'”

The victory was particularly important for Alonso after Chelsea suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur the previous weekend. The Blues also exited the Carabao Cup during the week after losing to Liverpool in a penalty shootout.

Consequently, returning to winning ways against Manchester United provided a significant boost for the manager and his squad. Estevao’s promising display could also influence Alonso’s selection decisions in upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia delivered another encouraging performance, completing the full 90 minutes for the second time within a week. Considering his previous injury problems, his continued availability represents positive news for Chelsea as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
