According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge to increase the pressure on Michael Carrick, whose side extended their winless run to nine matches in all competitions.
The Blues entered the Premier League encounter hoping to recover from their recent defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and elimination from the Carabao Cup against Liverpool, while United were looking to end their disappointing run of results.
Chelsea started brightly, with Estevao causing problems for the visitors down the right flank before firing the first attempt of the game wide. Former Blues midfielder Andrey Santos also threatened at the other end but curled his effort past the post.
Estevao thought he had opened the scoring around the 15th minute after converting a rebound from Pedro Neto's effort, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Manchester United subsequently created a promising opportunity through Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes. However, the Portuguese midfielder failed to hit the target after receiving the ball in a good position.
Amad Diallo was particularly impressive for the visitors, giving Wesley Fofana problems with his attacking runs. The Ivorian winger forced goalkeeper Mike Penders into two saves before Matheus Cunha also had a goal disallowed for offside.
Chelsea came close to breaking the deadlock when Fofana's header from a corner struck Moises Caicedo before hitting the post and bouncing away from danger.
The hosts eventually took the lead shortly after the restart through Morgan Rogers. Romeo Lavia won possession in midfield before the England international drove towards the United defence and delicately lifted the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Manchester United's problems worsened when Lisandro Martinez was sent off following a VAR review. The Argentine defender received a second yellow card after using his arm to barge into Fofana during a corner.
The referee subsequently awarded Chelsea a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted despite Lammens getting a strong hand to his effort.
With United reduced to 10 men, Chelsea controlled proceedings and created further opportunities to extend their advantage. Estevao found the net again after being set up by Palmer, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Lammens also produced another save to deny the Brazilian winger, while Mbeumo struck the crossbar during stoppage time as United searched for a consolation goal.
The victory was Chelsea's third in their last seven Premier League matches, while United remained without a win in nine consecutive games across all competitions.
