According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday October 29, 2026, Bayer Leverkusen manager Carles Martínez has praised Nigerian striker Victor Boniface following his brief appearance in the club's 5-2 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg in the DFB Cup.
Boniface has struggled to secure regular playing time since the beginning of the season but was given an opportunity to feature late in Wednesday's encounter at the BayArena.
The 25-year-old came on for Jonas Hofmann in the closing stages and spent just over three minutes on the pitch.
Despite his limited involvement, the Nigerian international managed to impress Martínez, who expressed satisfaction with his contribution after the match.
Speaking after the encounter, the Leverkusen manager admitted that he understood Boniface's frustration over his lack of playing opportunities, explaining that the striker wanted to play a more important role in the team.
"I'm happy for him because I know he wanted to play and be important. He was good in those few minutes," Martínez said, as quoted by Liga Insider.
The appearance against Nürnberg was only Boniface's second outing of the campaign. He previously featured as a substitute in Bayer Leverkusen's season-opening fixture against SV Elversberg.
The Nigerian forward will now be hoping to build on his latest appearance and convince the coaching staff that he deserves more opportunities.
With Martínez acknowledging his determination and praising his contribution, Boniface will be eager to regain his best form and establish himself in Leverkusen's plans for the remainder of the season.
