Who is David Santos Daiber - Bayern Munich's newest goalscorer?

In Bayern Munich's 6-1 rout against Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal second round, a new face got his name on the scoresheet. It was David Santos Daiber. Santos Daiber, born in 2007, is a talented midfielder coming out of Bayern's academy. He was born in Luxembourg, but chose Portugal in his youth career, joining Bayern in 2016.

Santos Daiber is a tall, lanky midfielder, standing at around 6'1. He is best suited to play as part of a double pivot, with great passing skills and ball control. Santos Daiber's skill set is made for a possession-based playstyle, which fits Bayern's philosophy.

Sometimes he can take longer than needed to make his decision and lacks in physical duelling, but these are bound to change as he matures. A standout in the youth setting, he received his maiden first-team call-up in the summer leading up to the 2025/26 season as part of Bayern's FIFA Club World Cup roster.

He later played for Die Roten in multiple preseason games, including a start against Grasshopper, which ended in a 2-1 victory. The 19-year-old continued to develop in the youth squad during the season while juggling between first-team practices.

His first big breakthrough for Bayern Munich came against Heidenheim on December 21. A deprived Bayern forced Vincent Kompany to call up a few young players, and Santos Daiber was given a chance to come on as a substitute to replace Raphael Guerreiro. Head coach Vincent Kompany rates the young midfielder, as he later started in the mid-season friendly against RB Salzburg.

Unfortunately for Santos Daiber, he suffered a serious hamstring injury at the end of last season, sidelining him for more than three months. The Portuguese should have been able to feature in a few Bundesliga games last season when Bayern rested the starters for more important Champions League fixtures.

Fast forward to the DFB-Pokal tie against Magdeburg, Santos Daiber replaced Tom Bischof, marking his third appearance for Bayern Munich.

He celebrated his season debut in style, with his first senior goal being an absolute banger. He received the ball from Josip Stanisic on the edge of the box and whacked a thunderous low-driven shot to the bottom corner.

Another brilliant player from the academy worth looking out for, Bayern fans. His contract with the club runs until 2030 after signing an extension last year. There is serious untapped potential within Santos Daiber, and Vincent Kompany is looking to help him blossom into an all-round first-team player like Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Also having a monumental moment for Bayern today was Tim Binder, the young winger made his debut for the club, coming on to replace Ismael Saibari.
