PSG beat Barcelona 4-2 in a Champions League thriller to end the Catalans' unbeaten run

Barcelona's unbeaten start to the season ended at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night, as Paris Saint-Germain won 4-2 in a Champions League tie that will take some beating as match of the season, Sky Sports reports.

The holders and the Spanish leaders threw everything at each other, with 40 shots on goal between them. In the end, PSG had more left in the tank.

Kvaratskhelia hit the woodwork inside two minutes, and the hosts were then dealt a blow when Ballon d'Or holder Ousmane Dembele limped off with a suspected hamstring problem before the 20-minute mark. Dani Olmo also went off in the first half, adding to Barcelona's growing list of absentees.

PSG took the lead in the 38th minute when Desire Doue scored after a mistake from Lamine Yamal. Barcelona pulled level in the 55th through teenager Xavi Espart. Kvaratskhelia then had to be helped off on the hour.

Torres struck the post from close range for Barcelona in the 71st minute, and PSG went ahead again a minute later when Lucas Hernandez headed home from a set piece. Yamal answered in the 79th with a fierce finish from a tight angle to make it 2-2.

PSG needed just two minutes to respond. Vitinha scored from the edge of the box in the 81st minute, and Fabian Ruiz tapped in the fourth in the 86th as Barcelona ran out of energy. It was Hansi Flick's side's first defeat in 12 games this season.

Barcelona forward Anthony Gordon was gracious afterwards, telling TNT Sports that PSG "deserved it" and were the better team. He said the French side kept up their pressure and intensity for longer than Barca could, and that they have been "the team to beat for two years."

"I think we can take great positives because we played well," Gordon added, saying his team now has to analyse the game and work to reach that level.

Sky Sports' Callum Bishop, who covered PSG's 5-4 win over Bayern Munich last season, said the game was not quite at that level but sat in a very similar bracket. He praised Barcelona for refusing to sit back and instead matching PSG's attacking approach, describing the contest as "blow for blow, haymaker for haymaker."

Barcelona have little time to recover. Flick's side travel to Real Madrid on Sunday for the first Clasico of the season, with the fitness of Olmo and others a concern.
