Romeo Lavia is gradually putting his injury problems behind him as the Chelsea midfielder works hard to establish himself as a regular member of the team under manager Xabi Alonso.
According to report by Football London on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the Belgian has made significant progress with his fitness this season. His latest appearance against Manchester United marked the second consecutive match in which he completed the full 90 minutes.
The 22-year-old has also improved his performances in midfield, showing greater confidence and control during Chelsea's recent matches. His display against United was described as arguably his strongest since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Lavia's progress is particularly encouraging considering the difficulties he experienced after joining Chelsea from Southampton in the summer of 2023 for £58 million. Injuries restricted him to just one appearance during his first season at the club.
He enjoyed a better campaign in his second season, making 22 appearances across all competitions and helping Chelsea win the Club World Cup. However, further fitness setbacks limited his involvement the following season, when he managed only four Premier League starts.
His current campaign represents a significant improvement. Lavia has recorded 372 minutes across seven Premier League appearances, starting five matches in the 2026/27 season.
His growing availability could become especially important ahead of Chelsea's Sunday meeting with Sunderland. There are concerns about Moises Caicedo's fitness after reports suggested he missed Wednesday's training session.
With uncertainty surrounding Caicedo, Lavia could have greater responsibility in the midfield. His determination to overcome repeated setbacks is now giving Chelsea encouraging signs that their investment may finally produce the consistency they expected.
