According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 22, 2026, Pedri recovered from a difficult opening spell during Barcelona’s 4-2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, gradually improving his performance despite the visitors’ aggressive pressing.
The midfielder made early mistakes but later helped Barcelona progress through midfield before being substituted after an hour ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid.
Barcelona struggled to control possession as PSG disrupted their passing combinations and applied constant pressure. Pedri, usually dependable when dictating the tempo, lost possession twice in dangerous areas during the opening stages. Those errors forced goalkeeper Joan Garcia to intervene.
However, the Spanish midfielder refused to let his difficult start define his performance. PSG’s intense pressing made Barcelona’s usual approach difficult, especially with Rodri unavailable as an important midfield reference point.
Pedri subsequently adjusted his game by carrying the ball forward and attempting passes into spaces behind PSG’s defensive line. His improved approach helped Barcelona advance up the pitch and find opportunities to attack.
One impressive driving run produced Barcelona’s first dangerous attacking move. The midfielder’s contribution also prompted supporters in the away section to chant his name as he attempted to inspire his teammates.
Pedri’s statistics reflected a steady recovery rather than an outstanding individual display. He recorded 51 touches and completed 36 of his 38 passes during the contest. He also registered 18 runs, four defensive contributions, three interceptions and seven ball recoveries.
The Barcelona midfielder further demonstrated his defensive awareness by blocking a shot during a dangerous three-on-one situation involving PSG. His passing accuracy remained impressive despite the pressure, while his movement and defensive contributions helped his team regain some composure.
Nevertheless, Pedri’s improvement was insufficient to change the outcome. PSG maintained their attacking threat and secured a 4-2 victory over the Catalan side.
Hansi Flick eventually substituted Pedri after 60 minutes, with the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid also a consideration. Barcelona will now hope their influential midfielder can deliver a stronger performance when they face their fierce rivals on Sunday.
