According to a report by Sky Sports on Tuesday October 27, 2026, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has named Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez as the two players the club should sell following controversial comments made by both stars.
Scholes criticised Fernandes for publicly questioning Michael Carrick’s tactics after Manchester United suffered a heavy defeat to Como last week.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes was asked by host Paddy McGuinness how many players he would get rid of from the current squad.
“Well, from what Bruno Fernandes did last week, I think that was unforgivable. So Bruno’s one,” Scholes said.
The former midfielder also included Martinez on his list following the Argentine defender’s comments about the club’s hierarchy after their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.
“I’m not saying it’s wrong what he said, but it’s not his business. That is nothing to do with you,” Scholes added.
Fernandes’ criticism of Carrick’s tactics came amid Manchester United’s disappointing run of results. The Portuguese midfielder was subsequently dropped to the bench for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth and was not introduced during the match.
United went on to suffer a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford, extending their winless run in all competitions to eight matches and leaving them 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone.
The result has increased the pressure on Carrick, with reports suggesting that Manchester United are already considering potential replacements.
Former United captain Gary Neville believes Carrick could soon lose his job, while Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have reportedly emerged as possible candidates to take over at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will hope to arrest their poor run when they travel to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, with Carrick under mounting pressure to deliver a positive result
