BRA 1-3 NGA: Nigeria's Flamingos Reach First-Ever U-17 Women's World Cup Final After Beating Brazil

Nigeria’s Flamingos have made history by qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final for the first time after defeating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final clash in Morocco.

According to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Nigerian side produced a dominant second-half display to overcome Brazil and move one step closer to claiming their maiden title in the competition.

The encounter was evenly contested in the opening 45 minutes, with neither team able to find the breakthrough. However, Nigeria returned from the interval with renewed attacking purpose and eventually took the lead in the 56th minute.

Queen Joseph opened the scoring after connecting with an excellent pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, giving the Flamingos a deserved advantage.

The goal lifted Nigeria’s confidence, and the youngsters continued to put pressure on their opponents in search of another strike. Their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Awawu Bashiru extended the lead, finishing off an assist from Queen Joseph.

Bashiru then strengthened Nigeria’s grip on the contest nine minutes later by scoring her second goal of the match. The forward converted Oluebube Umejiaku’s pass in the 80th minute to make it 3-0 and leave Brazil facing an uphill battle.

Brazil managed to reduce the deficit in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, who found the net following an assist from Yasmin Queiroz. However, the late goal proved insufficient to spark a comeback as Nigeria held on for an important victory.

The result secures the Flamingos’ first appearance in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final, taking them beyond their previous best finish of third place in the 2022 edition.

Nigeria will now take on Japan in Saturday’s final after the Asian side defeated defending champions North Korea in the other semi-final.

The Flamingos’ progress has been particularly remarkable considering they began the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Poland in the group stage. They responded by defeating Puerto Rico and North Korea before knocking out Mexico in the round of 16 and Venezuela in the quarter-finals.

Their victory over Brazil represents another significant achievement for Nigerian women’s football, with the team now having the opportunity to become the country’s first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup champions.
