According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, October 26, 2026, Galatasaray secured a crucial 2-1 win over arch-rivals Fenerbahçe in an entertaining Turkish Süper Lig encounter.
Galatasaray made a strong start and were rewarded in the 29th minute when Victor Osimhen opened the scoring. The Nigerian striker finished off a move created by Baris Alper Yilmaz to put the hosts ahead.
Osimhen struck again just before the break, finding the net in the 44th minute after being set up by Davinson Sanchez. His second goal gave Galatasaray a comfortable two-goal advantage heading into half-time.
Fenerbahçe came out with renewed determination after the restart and began searching for a way back into the contest. Their efforts paid off in the 62nd minute when Irfan Kahveci converted a pass from Oguz Aydin to make it 2-1 and set up a tense finish.
However, Galatasaray remained disciplined defensively and managed to withstand the visitors’ attempts to find an equaliser. The hosts also made important changes as they looked to protect their lead, eventually seeing out the game to claim all three points.
Osimhen was undoubtedly the hero of the derby, with his first-half brace making the difference between the two sides. His goals delivered a significant result for Galatasaray and strengthened their hopes of retaining the league title.
The victory lifted Galatasaray back to the top of the Süper Lig standings with 22 points, giving them a two-point advantage over their nearest challengers. Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, slipped to fifth place with 16 points after suffering a disappointing defeat.
