According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 17, 2026, Liverpool produced an impressive second-half comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Brentford in their Premier League encounter.
Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak scored after the break to overturn the hosts' advantage, helping Liverpool claim all three points despite a difficult first half that included injuries to key players and a lengthy VAR review.
Brentford started brightly and created several opportunities to trouble Liverpool's defence. Igor Thiago came close to opening the scoring in the 28th minute after receiving a pass from Dango Ouattara, but his effort narrowly missed the target. Liverpool also struggled to find their rhythm, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz forced off through injuries during the first half.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Igor Thiago delivered an excellent cross into the penalty area, allowing Keane Lewis-Potter to attack the ball and power a close-range header beyond Alisson Becker.
Liverpool thought they had earned a penalty shortly before the interval after Dango Ouattara fouled an opponent inside the box. However, referee John Brooks reviewed the incident with the assistance of VAR and overturned the decision, denying the visitors an opportunity to equalise.
Brentford suffered another setback during first-half stoppage time when Yegor Yarmolyuk received a straight red card following a VAR review. The dismissal left the hosts with ten men for the remainder of the contest.
Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage after the restart. In the 62nd minute, Florian Wirtz provided the assist for Victor Munoz, who produced an excellent strike from the edge of the penalty area to level the score.
The visitors continued applying pressure and completed their comeback in the 70th minute. Bradley Barcola headed a cross into a dangerous area, allowing Alexander Isak to react quickly and fire the ball into the net.
Brentford attempted to find another equaliser but struggled to break through Liverpool's defence. Their situation worsened when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card in the 90+2nd minute, reducing the hosts to nine players.
Liverpool created further opportunities late on, with Barcola hitting the crossbar. Despite additional pressure, the visitors held on to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
